hello, welcome to high as hope!! my last site was found by an irl friend, and so went from a safe space to daanger ...

high is hope is named after the florence & the machine album, naturally, and by extention florence's poem 'new york poem (for polly)' . social media scares me and all my thoughts are so disconnected but having a site has always been a good place to bring everything together.

‎ world building

i LOVE world building. #OnThatGrind

the latest development in my world building has been incorporating dice. i don't create worlds for DND, so i've never thought to include any kind of randomness like that in my own writing, but watching the adventuring parties (dropout) for the new d20 season, Gladlands, in which they create locations by rolling dice for attributes. i realised i could functionally play DND with myself to simulate the realistic unpredictability of social interactions, combat, ect. rather than always having complete control over every story beat. as a writer, you tend to share your protagonist's goals, so it can be difficult to fuck up their gameplan. this makes it easier!! and, it's so fun to chuck dice around and get that full suspense, it really makes you feel like part of the scene.

‎ what i'm up to

currently, i'm a full-time physics student in my first year of uni o_O

university definitely takes up most of my time, and flits between being something that fufills me and then the worst decision i've ever made, i'm also an avid editor.

i've been editing for 6 years, first youtube videos (bedwars, lmao) and now fan edits. it's less about the content and more about the act of editing itself, for me. i started on davinci resolve, which works great for youtube, and then video star for the fan edits. for two years, sept 2023 until sept 2025, i used after effects. now i cannot be bothered. video star is so much more accessable as it's on mobile, so why would i open up my ae laptop!
